Violation of Drivers License Restriction

A driving restriction is defined as a limitation that has been placed on your driver’s license to limit your driving privileges that might have been imposed for one or more reasons. If a driving restriction has been placed on your license it will appear on the front of the license under the heading ‘RESTR.’ The MVA will place a restriction on a person’s license if that person needs to wear glasses while driving, needs to have special equipment in their car while driving, or is only allowed to drive from home to work or from home to school and that is it and vice versa. Other restrictions might be alcohol related or drug related.

Fines and Penalties

Fines for various traffic offenses are different across the country because the amounts are set by each individual state or each individual township. Fines for violating the restrictions placed on a driver’s license range from $100-$300 depending on the restriction and the situation that the driver was involved in when pulled over. Other penalties include the outright suspension of the driver’s license for violating a license restriction or the revocation of the license altogether if the restriction violated was alcohol related. Another penalty that can be incurred is the forfeiture of the vehicle to the state if the driver was previously convicted of or pleaded guilty to two or more violations of a license restriction.

Traffic Points and Impact on Driving Record / License

Violating a driver’s license restriction is a moving operation and comes with two points being placed on the motorist’s license. The points remain active on the license for three years and are not removed until the fourth year. The insurance company of the driver will be notified of the ticket and subsequent penalties and will decide whether to raise the driver’s insurance rates or remove them from their coverage altogether depending on the severity of the violation.
