We all realize that moving traffic laws are essential for public safety. However, many of us have violated one of these laws at some point during our lives. Some of these violations are treated more harshly than others. One of these harshly treated violations is being caught speeding.

Fines and Penalties

If you are speeding down some street or highway, you are bound to get caught by a police officer. The fines and points you will face depend on the severity of the violation. If you are going five miles faster than the speed limit, it is not a huge problem. If you are going 40 miles faster than you should, and you are in a neighborhood with children, you are asking for a serious fine. The amount of money you have to pay in fines varies greatly based on the offense and where it takes place. A speeding fine can range from $100 to almost $500. When it comes to how many points will be added to your license, it is up to the discretion of the police officer. Some officers may let you slide, while others will add possibly up to six points to your license. With six or more points on your license, you may have your license suspended for 15 days or more. In addition, you may have to pass special examinations to prove that you are OK to drive.

If you want to defend yourself against being charged an exorbitant fine or having too many points added to your license, make sure you speak with a qualified legal professional.

Traffic Points and Impact on Driving Record / License

Speeding can be low or high depending on how severe the offense is and where you are driving. Some states are notorious for issuing very high speeding tickets. At the very least, you may pay $100. If you seriously upset the officer that pulls you over, you may pay up to $500 in fines.

Points are usually added to an offender’s license. For a minor offense, you may receive one or two points. If you seriously violate the law, you might have to deal with six points being added to your license. These points could lead to your license being suspended or revoked. This may then lead to higher insurance rates and having to attend classes.

Hiring a Lawyer

If you feel that you have been wrongly penalized for your speeding violation, make sure to seek out an attorney who may be able to reduce the fines or points you been issued.
