No Double Trailer Endorsement
An individual who holds a Commercial Driver’s License must have the appropriate endorsements to operate longer combination vehicles (LCV). The double trailer endorsement requires a minimal knowledge of coupling and uncoupling the double trailer and inspecting the air brakes. Knowledge of how to assemble and connect the unit as well as understanding how to stabilize the vehicle is required. In order to drive a commercial vehicle with a double trailer, you must get your commercial drivers license endorsed by passing the doubles endorsement test. Driving a commercial vehicle without the proper endorsement is serious traffic violation.
Fines and Penalties
There are federal and state laws that affect CDL drivers. Violations of these rules can result in both civil and criminal penalties. The Federal penalty for a driver who violates the CDL requirements is a civil penalty of up to $2,500 or in aggravated cases, a criminal penalty of up to $5,000 and/or up to 90 days in jail.
Traffic Points and Impact on Driving Record / License
The penalty for operating a commercial motor vehicle with an improper class license or endorsement will receive a 60-day suspension of their driving privileges. Upon a second conviction, a 180-day suspension will be imposed; and upon a third or subsequent conviction occurring within a 5-year period, a 365-day suspension will apply.
Hiring a Lawyer
If you possess a Commercial Driver’s License, your driving history travels with you when you move from state to state. If you commit any offense that requires the suspension or revocation of your Commercial Driver’s License, you may only apply for “Limited Driving Privileges” to operate a private, non-commercial vehicle. A limited driving privilege will allow you to continue driving a non-commercial vehicle for employment or specified reasons during a period of suspension or revocation. The federal and state laws governing commercial drivers are very complicated and you may require a qualified attorney to help protect your Commercial Driver’s License.
