Study Shows that Hybrid Drivers Get More Traffic Tickets

July 21, 2009

A company known as Quality Planning recently completed a study about hybrid cars and the trends and habits of their drivers. It was found that not only do hybrid owners drive more and have to pay more for their repair costs, but also, receive more traffic tickets than drivers of standard automobiles.

It was found that each hybrid driver incurs about 0.38 violations for every 100,000 miles that he or she drives. This is much higher than the overall average of 0.23 violations. In fact, it is about 65 percent more frequent.

Quality Planning found that the main reason for this might be that hybrid cars are generally owned and driven in urban areas- areas where more traffic tickets are given on a regular basis. Therefore, it seems that the statistic may be a bit skewed.

However, the study also showed that hybrid drivers spend an average of 25 percent more time behind the wheel than non-hybrid owners do. This amounts to about 2000 extra miles per driver-, which could have some impact on the number of traffic tickets received.
