Truck Inspection Leads to DUI Arrest
On August 10, 2006 at approximately 8:15 PM, Alfred F. Kindrick, a 57 year old resident of Portland was driving a 1995 Freightliner semi truck pulling a trailer containing a load of antifreeze. Kindrick drove into the Ridgefield Port of Entry, northbound I-5 at milepost 15.
Kindrick was stopped and contacted by WSP Commercial Vehicle Officer Michael Nesary. Nesary directed the driver into the inspection building to perform an inspection. While conducting the paperwork portion of the inspection, Nesary detected an odor of intoxicants coming from the driver. Kindrick denied having consumed any alcohol, but did volunteer to take a portable breath test (PBT) which showed him to be over the legal limit of .04 for an operator of a commercial vehicle.
At approximately 9:15 PM, Trooper Bill Jordan contacted the scale and Mr. Kindrick. Kindrick submitted to an additional breath test, verifying he was over the legal limit.
Kindrick was cited for DUI and placed out of service from operating a commercial vehicle for a 24 hour period.
