ohio.gov, Jan 24, 2007

A California man will appear in the Shelby County Municipal court tomorrow after Ohio State Highway Troopers seized 25 kilos of cocaine, valued at $2.5 million, during a traffic stop on Interstate 75 in Shelby County.

Carlos Garcia, 37, of LaPuente, California, will be charged with trafficking of cocaine, a first-degree felony.

Troopers stopped a 2000 Freightliner driven by Garcia, for an improper lanes violation northbound on Interstate 75, near mile post 89, in Shelby County at 10:42 a.m. A Shelby County drug-detecting canine alerted to the vehicle and a probable cause search revealed 25 kilos of cocaine in the trailer.

Garcia was incarcerated in the Shelby County Jail pending his hearing in the Shelby County Municipal Court. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in jail and up to a $20,000 fine.

In 2006, the Patrol seized more than 4.9 million grams of illegal narcotics, valued at nearly $55 million.
