Surveillance Cameras Installed In Alabama Intersections

ntl.bts.gov, Nov 09, 2005

Video technology applications for traffic management and safety are being implemented by state and local government agencies in Alabama. This technology offers both tangible and intangible benefits. Although video technology provides many benefits, it requires substantial up-front costs for purchasing and installing the equipment and training staff.

Due to the complexity of video systems and the rapid pace of change related to this technology, agencies may overlook some applications while using resources to implement less valuable applications. This study compiled a detailed review of current capabilities of video technology. This research applied and tested new, low cost video applications for traffic management and safety in Alabama on pilot scale projects to help agencies employ video technology to its fullest potential. Several video systems, like digital video cameras, conventional video recorders, surveillance cameras, and Autoscope were implemented and tested at various locations within the state.
