You could be facing a serious penalty as a result of your reckless driving, which Michigan defines as driving with “willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property.” In terms of punishment, the judge can issue a sentence of up to 93 days in jail, as well as a fine of up to $500.
Hiring an attorney would be a smart move to help minimize the impact of your violation on your driving record. Because the law is rather vague, as it is more of an opinion of your driving in the eyes of the police officer, your attorney may be able to help clear up the doubts about your violation. As well, your lawyer may be able to plea your offense down to a less violation/infraction.
