I received a parking ticket last week for a meter violation when the meter I was using malfunctioned while my car was parked. How do I go about contesting the parking ticket, and do I need an attorney to fighting the parking ticket?

When you receive a parking ticket, there will be a date listed on which you are to appear in court. Contesting the ticket is as simple as showing up that day to court, and pleading not guilty to the charge alleged. Depending on the court and state you are in, you may have another date set to contest the parking ticket, or the parking ticket fight will commence then. It is important to have all evidence with you, including witnesses, at that time just in case.
You don’t necessarily need an attorney to fight parking tickets, but having one can definitely help you cause. An attorney will be able to make sure you present your evidence properly and raise the proper issues. In some cases, an attorney can help lower the fine or penalty given for your ticket if possible.
