Virginia Reckless Driving

While some traffic violations are only punishable by a fine, Virginia reckless driving is not one of them. First, you must understand what reckless driving means, since it is loosely defined in Virginia (and other state) laws. To be charged with reckless driving, a police officer must have seen you committing two or more traffic offenses that endangered the lives of another. For example, speeding through a school zone and weaving in and out of traffic would constitute reckless driving because 1. It involved multiple violations and 2. It endangered the lives of many others (drives and school children). In this case, the police are likely to have many eyewitnesses to the incident. If you are convicted of Virginia reckless driving, you could be sentenced to up to a year in jail and have to pay a $2,500 fine. In addition, your driver's license could be suspended for up to six months.
