Traffic Court Violations

Most state laws define driving is a privilege and not a right. If you rack up too many traffic court violations, that right can be taken away. While all states are different, most have a points system. For example, in the state of Montana, if you accumulate 30 points in three years, your license can be revoked for three years. Those points can add up quickly. A DUI conviction is 10 points. A speeding violation is three points. There are only two ways to avoid accumulating points on your license: 1. Have the traffic court violations dismissed. You can hire an attorney to represent you in traffic court. Even if the charge is not dismissed you may be able to enter a plea bargain that will put fewer points on your license. 2. Don't get cited for a traffic violation. This way you will know your driving record is clean.

Fast Facts

  • Minnesota is one of the few states without a points system.
  • In New Hampshire, you can lose your license for three months if you accumulate 12 points in a year.
