Texas Traffic Court

If you are caught speeding, following too closely or disobeying traffic signals, you may find yourself in a Texas traffic court. These courts may be under the jurisdiction of municipalities or Texas counties.

In some cases, you can avoid a Texas traffic court and just pay the fine before your court date. However, you may want to consult an attorney before you make that decision. If you are convicted of a misdemeanor traffic offense you could be forced to pay additional fines under Texas' Driver Responsibility Program. If you receive six points on your license in three years, you will be fined a surcharge of $100 for the first six points and $25 for each additional point. If you appear in Texas traffic court, you can appeal your case. In some instances, a judge may allow you to plead to a reduced charge that will put fewer points on your driver's license.
