Texas Speeding Ticket

In Texas, you can violate speeding laws either by exceeding the posted speed limits, or by driving at a speed that is excessive given the circumstances. Under the law, you do have the option of dismissing a Texas speeding ticket once each year by completing a defensive driving course, so long as you did not exceed the posted speeding limit by more than 25 mph, you have a valid Texas driver's license, and you maintain auto liability insurance in your name. However, drivers who hold commercial drivers' licenses (CDLs) may not use a defensive driving course in order to dismiss their Texas speeding tickets. Additionally, speeding is a moving violation under Texas law, so when you receive a Texas speeding ticket, it is reported to the Texas Department of Public Safety and placed on your driving record. Not only will the speeding ticket affect your auto insurance premiums, but, because Texas as a point system for traffic citations in place, it will result in two points being added to your driving record.
