Texas Driving Records

Texas driving records are affected by all types of traffic citations, in that Texas law implements a point system that assesses a certain amount of points to your driving record depending upon the type of traffic citation you received. By completing a state-approved defensive driving and/or driver education course, however, you have the ability to have one traffic ticket dismissed from your driving record altogether. Keep in mind, though, that under Texas law, you can only have one traffic citation dismissed every 12 months, and this sort of relief is not available for certain traffic citations, such as excessive speeding, which involves speeding at least 25 mph over the speed limit, or driving under the influence. Plus, if you have a commercial driver's license, or if you contest your traffic ticket in any way, you are not eligible for this program. There is a fee assessed for participation in this program, although its cost varies slightly depending on your location. You may be eligible for an additional discount from your insurance company if you furnish it with proof that you have completed the program.
