Speeding Ticket Record

Every licensed driver has a driving record in the state in which he or she is licensed, which is maintained by the state department of motor vehicles. Each time that a driver receives a speeding ticket or other traffic law violation, it goes on his or her driving record, assuming that he or she admits to or is found guilty of the violation. A driver's speeding ticket record, then, will reflect all speeding tickets and other traffic citations received within a certain timeframe. Plus, if the driver's state has a point system in place, each speeding ticket and/or traffic citation that is placed on his or her driving record will result in a certain number of points being assessed. The number of points is determined by state law, and points generally remain on a driving record for a certain period of time. If sufficient points accrue, the driver's license becomes subject to suspension, and also typically results in an increase in auto insurance premiums.
