Reckless Driving Texas

The crime of reckless driving under Texas law occurs when you drive a vehicle in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property. The Texas reckless driving law applies not only to vehicles driven on public roadways, but also to vehicles driven in privately-owned parking lots and parking garages. Reckless driving under Texas law is a misdemeanor crime that can result in fines and/or a jail sentence; reckless driving is a much more serious offense than a simple traffic violation or infraction, and therefore can result in much more serious penalties than your typical traffic ticket. As a practical matter, most persons receiving a first conviction in Texas for reckless driving are not likely to serve a jail sentence, but may still be subject to other fines and penalties. For instance, if you are convicted of reckless driving in Texas, you are subject to an automatic suspension of your driver's license.
