Private Parking Ticket

Especially in larger cities and urban areas, most drivers have likely received a private parking ticket at one time or another, or a citation issued by a private company for parking your vehicle in an unauthorized area. In many jurisdictions, a private company can charge you a fine or penalty for unauthorized parking on private property, provided that the company takes steps to make you aware that you are parking in an unauthorized area. For instance, if you park in a lot that is clearly marked with signs stating that the lot is on private parking and you are not authorized to park there, it is fair to say that you have been adequately warned that you are parking in an unauthorized area. However, while private companies may attempt to charge you a fine for your unauthorized parking, or even tow or disable your vehicle at your expense (also known as "booting" your vehicle), private companies may not issue parking citations such as those issued by your state or local government. As a result, you cannot be ordered to appear in traffic court for a private parking ticket, nor can you lose your driver's license.
