The first thing to do to get out of a speeding ticket is to start building your case immediately. Begin by putting your hands on top of the steering wheel so the officer can see them, and be courteous to the officer. Never admit to the officer that you were speeding and plead ignorance to the situation (remember, you are probably being video recorded, anything you say can be used against you). Kindly ask for a verbal or written warning. If this does not work, start the process of documenting what happened. The first thing you can do is read the ticket for accuracy, as errors can lead to a dismissal. Next, note where the officer was when you were tagged- was the officer moving or stationary, and where was the officer in relation to you. Ask to see the radar gun, and write down the model. Certain models are only accurate within certain distances, and the radar gun must have updated maintenance records proving they are properly calibrated for both sitting and moving positions. It is your right to request these records in court and the officer must provide them, or the case will be dismissed. When you get your court date, delay it as much as possible- the officer may lose interest and not show, also leading to a dismissal. Finally, plead 'not guilty' and educate yourself on any alternatives the court may offer in exchange for getting your speeding ticket reduced or dismissed.
