Football tailgating is a time-honored tradition that occurs hours before a football game is played. Tailgating refers to have some sort of BBQ or party in a parking lot of some sort outside of a parked vehicle, thus the term. Most tailgating occurs during the college and professional football seasons, and many teams have long-standing tailgating traditions. While tailgating is usually done with the best of intentions, there are many dangers associated with it. First, most tailgating includes drinking mass amounts of alcohol. This leads to a number of problems, including public urination, minors in possession, public intoxication, and physical assaults. It can also lead to DUIs and DUI accidents. Personal safety can be put at risk in tailgating environments as well. Most tailgates are heavily policed; many places have put restrictions on tailgating (such as open source laws, bans on kegs, etc) and ticket people heavily for violating those terms. In fact, the Philadelphia Eagles organization has even gone so far as to install a working court with a judge and jail in the stadium to process the large number of offenders they ticket before and during games.
