Speeding tickets are issued to those who drive over the speed limit on a public roadway. However, it can be difficult to absolutely measure the speed of a moving vehicle. That means many drivers can contest their tickets and win. But it's not easy. The judge in traffic court has a great deal of decision-making power, and if he feels that your evidence or argument are faulty, he can rule against you. There are other alternatives, however. If the ticket is a first offense, the judge may choose to dismiss the speeding ticket and just issue a warning. But you must remember that you will not be so lucky next time. If the mph over the speed limit is small, the judge may allow you to attend traffic school, which can result in dismissal as well.
