Dc Parking Tickets

From street cleaning to residential permits, and from homeowner's driveways to diplomat row, parking is a problem that has many District of Columbia residents and visitors up in arms. In DC alone, there are approximately 1.3 million parking tickets issued each year. Many are for parking in zones that are reserved for street cleaning during specified hours. Others are for residents who do not have permits to park on streets in their own neighborhoods. Still others fine those who park in their own driveways, just not beside or behind the house. Finally, diplomats can be ticketed if they don't have a special permit to allow them unrestricted parking near their embassy. Yet, many drivers are contesting their tickets and winning. It can be done if the ticket is either unreadable or incomplete. As many as 30% of those that are contested are dismissed.

Fast Facts

  • Check the signage around your parking spot to make sure it doesn't become an illegal spot while you are away. It can get towed.
  • If there is any question about the accuracy or clarity of your ticket, you can contest it. Many are doing so successfully.
