Parking tickets are a nightmare to many city dwellers, as well as to those who shop or do business in downtown areas. Statistics indicate that in New York City alone, over 10 million parking tickets are issued each year. With that many written, there are bound to be errors, yet few people fight them. In some cities, it's easy to do; although it can be an uphill battle. If you go to court to contest a parking ticket, you may have to pay court costs if you lose. In some jurisdictions, you can contest a parking ticket by mail. However, since a parking ticket does not result in points on your driving record or increased insurance rates, many people find it easier just to pay it and move on.
