Colorado Driving Record

Colorado has stiff penalties for traffic violations in the state. They maintain a points system that adds points to your Colorado driving record for every ticket and accident. There are limits for how many points you can accrue within a certain period of time. If you go over that limit, you will have your license suspended for up to one year. At that time, you will have a hearing and the judge will determine the length of your suspension. At the end of your suspension, you must reinstate your license by paying a fee and applying for reinstatement with the state. If you drive before that is granted, you can be charged with driving with a suspended license, which carries a fine of up to $500 and a minimum of 5 days in jail. Points range from 2 to 12, with 12 being accrued for DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, and drag racing. 12 points in 12 months or 18 points in 24 months will lead to a suspension.

Fast Facts

  • If your driver's license is suspended, the judge may grant a probationary license if you have a special need to drive.
