Chicago Parking Ticket

Parking in Chicago is difficult at the best of times. Space is limited, and permits are required in some areas. However, Chicago has recently turned over its parking oversight to a private company and many of the signs and meters are confusing as they go through the transition. Since parking fines range from $60 to $200, it can be expensive to make a mistake. In recent months, there has been a marked increase in parking tickets, but also in the number of tickets dismissed. It may be worthwhile to consider challenging a ticket if it has been issued in error. That can be done through the mail within seven days of the citation. If you choose to pay the ticket, you can do so online. Not paying a ticket is not a good choice, though, since anyone with 10 or more unpaid parking tickets can have their driver's license suspended.

Fast Facts

  • Cars can be booted, or immobilized, if the owner has 3 or more unpaid Chicago parking tickets. If those tickets are not paid within 24 hours, the car can be towed.
  • Chicago does have payment plans for mounting parking fines.
