Most people think that accidents are the major cause of rising insurance rates; however, that is not necessarily true. Tickets, and primarily speeding tickets, can have an equally serious result. The best way to control car insurance rates is to drive responsibly. If, however, you do end up getting a speeding ticket, you must realize that insurance companies consider drivers who break the law to be a greater risk. The more tickets or the more serious the tickets, the greater risk you become. If the ticket is for 10 mph or less over the speed limit, it is a minor infraction and the insurance company may give you a break. Driving 15 mph or more over the speed limit is considered reckless driving and will almost always cause an increase in rates.
