Car Insurance Rate

Most states in the United States require drivers to carry auto insurance in order to cover their liability should they become involved in a traffic accident. The exceptions are New Hampshire, which allows motorists to drive at their own risk, and Virginia, which requires an annual $500 fee from drivers who choose not to carry insurance. Rates vary by state and by individual. They are based on a number of factors, including the kind of car being insured, the age of the drivers, the record of the drivers, and the normal distance the car is driven. Often, insurers in a state will monitor the driving records of their clients, especially when it is time for them to renew their policies. If they have new points, tickets, or accidents their rates may increase, in some states dramatically. In some instances, insurers will even drop coverage on someone they consider to be too great a risk.
