California Moving Violation

In California, just as in all other states, a moving violation is an infraction of the traffic laws committed by the driver of a moving vehicle. Moving violations are generally more serious than parking or stationary violations because there is a greater chance of property damage or bodily injury. Since California employs a points system, drivers who are ticketed for moving violations can accrue even higher penalties. Most California moving violation tickets accrue two points for the offender and fines of up to $400, depending on the speed, damage, and the driver's previous record. Four points within a 12-month period can result in a driver's license suspension or revocation. Points remain on a person's record for three to seven years depending on the infraction. The penalties don't stop there, either. Insurance companies check the driving record when clients apply for insurance or renew their insurance to determine their rates. The more points, the higher the rates will be.
