Ca Driving Record

As our city streets have become more congested, the need for careful driving and strict enforcement of traffic laws has grown, as well. In California, where traffic can be as bad as anywhere in the country, there is a points system that tracks tickets and accidents each driver. Each violation accrues either one or two points to a driver's CA driving record. One-point violations include minor moving violations and minor accidents for which you are at fault. Two-point violations are those with higher penalties, such as reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and more. When a driver accumulates 4 points within a 12-month period, his license can be suspended or revoked. That can also occur with 6 points in a 24-month period or 8 points in a 36-month period. Insurance companies also check your point totals every time a driver applies for or renews their insurance. If point totals are high, rates will increase.

Fast Facts

  • Two- and three-point accruals are usually cleared from a person's CA driving record within three years
  • One-point violations can sometimes be dismissed and removed from your record if you attend traffic school
